MAHJONG FOR ME

Your Game Gets Stronger Between Game Nights

SoloMahj is a beautifully designed practice board that lets you sharpen your skills, practice the Charleston, and build real confidence — all on your own time.

Here's the thing about confidence.

You know the rules. You can get through a game. But when you sit down at the table, there's still that moment of uncertainty — the Charleston feels rushed, hand selection feels like a guess, and you're not always sure you made the right call.

That gap between knowing how to play and feeling confident? It closes with practice. Not more games with four players — but intentional, focused, solo reps where you can slow down and really think.

SoloMahj gives you that space. It's your personal practice ritual — part skill-builder, part relaxation, all mahjong.

WHAT IS SOLOMAHJ?

A solitaire version of mahjong that actually builds your game.

SoloMahj was invented by the instructors at the Mahjong Academy of Dallas who wanted to help students grasp the game faster and build confidence. What they discovered? They loved playing it themselves.

It's an easy, screen-free way to play a quick hand anytime. Part skill-builder, part relaxation ritual — it's become a game-changer for players who want to improve without waiting for game night.

All you need: your SoloMahj board, your tiles, and your NMJL card.

YOUR SOLOMAHJ GUIDE

How to Play

It's simpler than you think. Here's the full walkthrough so you can start playing right away.

1

Build Your Hand

Draw 13 tiles from the bag and organize them however you like. A rack is optional — there's no one else to see your tiles! This is your starting hand, just like at the table.

2

Begin the Charleston

Follow the sequence printed right on your board — it guides you through every pass:

R (Right) → Discard 3, draw 3 O (Over) → Discard 3, draw 3 L (Left) → Discard 3, draw 3

The left pass can include a blind pass — just like a real game.

3

Decide Whether to Continue

After the first Charleston, you can stop and make a courtesy pass (0–3 tiles using the numbered spaces), or continue with a second Charleston in reverse (L–O–R). Once you're done passing, bring your hand back to 13 tiles and dump the discards back in the bag.

4

Time to Play!

Draw a tile from the bag (like picking from the wall), then choose one to discard — placing it face-up in the next open spot on your board. Repeat until you've filled all 24 spaces.

Your goal? Form mahjong before all 24 discard spaces are filled.

If you haven't won by then, you get one final draw — the Tile of Last Resort — for a total of 25 turns. Make mahjong within those 25 tiles and you win!

What Solo Practice Actually Builds

🎴

Tile Knowledge

The more you handle tiles on your own, the faster you recognize patterns, suits, and key combinations at the real table.

🔄

Charleston Confidence

Practice the full passing sequence at your own pace. No pressure, no time crunch — just intentional reps that build real muscle memory.

🧠

Decision-Making

Every draw is a decision. Keep or discard? Pivot or commit? Solo practice sharpens the thinking that makes you dangerous at the table.
