I Know the Rules—Now Help Me Play: A Live Class with Lara

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · 4–5 PM ET · Live on Zoom · $75

You've learned the rules. Then you sit down with your tiles and the card, and it can still be hard to know where to begin.

We'll work through that part together, slowly. I'll show you how I look at a rack, find a few possibilities on the card, and choose a direction using the tiles that are actually there. We'll also practice deciding what to keep, what to pass, and what new information is worth paying attention to.

What we'll practice

• Organizing a rack and noticing useful patterns
• Connecting the tiles you have to a few possible hands
• Choosing a workable direction without trying to solve the whole card
• Making early keep-or-pass decisions and reassessing as new tiles arrive

Who this is for: Newer players who have already had an introduction to American mahjong, recognize the tiles, and know the basic turn sequence. This is a guided next step after learning the rules.

Included: A 60-minute live class with Lara, guided rack examples, time for questions, the recording, and a simple practice sheet. Bring your 2026 NMJL card. Having tiles nearby is helpful but optional.

Recording and refund policy

Every paid class includes a recording sent as a download. Class purchases are nonrefundable, including if you miss the live session.
